I have made an interesting and comical discovery about the 1986 Sylvester Stallone movie Cobra. I’m not sure if you remember this particular Stallone film, it was not promoted or hyped to the extent of Rocky and Rambo. Sly wrote the screenplay and starred in this weak 80s action flick.   The movie is loosely referenced back to a Paula Gosling novel entitled “Fair Game,” which in 1995 became a closer adaptation of the book, starring Stephen Baldwin and Cindy Crawford.

The funny part about this film, if you look at Marion Cobretti, the lead character which Stallone portrays, he is a little bit of John Rambo and a part Rocky Balboa. Cobretti (Stallone) possesses the same die hard instincts as Rambo and the same slow witted manner as Rocky. Rambo was a war hero, Rocky was a world class heavyweight champion boxer, if you were to meet in the middle of these two classes of character, the only thing that would be left would be a hard nosed cop that takes crap from no one. Think about it.

Now we have three characters and eleven movies, all written and played on screen by Sylvester Stallone. All three movie titles are five letters long and a name; Rocky, Rambo, and Cobra. You can take letters from R O C K Y and R A M B O, and spell C O B R A. Is this a mere coincidence? Is Cobra just a refurbished character, taken from previous works in an attempt to launch Bridget Nielson’s (at the time, Stallone’s wife) acting career? How can these things be an accident?  Was he the Robert Palmer of film in the 80s?

I know nothing of the correlation between these movies and found no subject on the matter. I discovered the similarities during a discussion of whom had made more movies, Stallone or Schwarzenegger. Upon writing movie titles on the back of a receipt in my car, I noticed the similarities in the titles. I then thought about the lead roles and who had written them. Finally, talking it out and having a good laugh, we had stumbled across a very stupid, yet interesting comparison in the workings of Mr. Stallone. Making it a funny conversation piece to any movie-goer, Stallone fan, or 80s action film Lover. I mean come on, who doesn’t Love a good, or bad Stallone movie?
