Rocky Marciano: Heavyweight
Fight it out of Brockton, Massachusetts, Rocky Marciano could be one of the most popular champions of all time heavyweight boxing.
Fight at a time extremely heavy and has won competitive every fighter he faced. Marciano defeated such notables as Joe Louis, Jersey Joe Wolcott, Ezzard Charles and Archie Moore. When he retired in 1956, his impeccable record was 49 wins against no losses.
Marciano retained his popularity after retirement. He worked as a boxing commentator and a wrestling referee, because he had fought successfully in their youth. Unfortunately, Marciano died in a plane crash one day before his 46th birthday 1969.
Carmen Basilio: Two Champions of Class
Born in 1927 in New York, Carmen Basilio is our choice for the most difficult book for pound fighter of all time. Not only was a defensive fighter, but also a wild punch-cons who continued his opponent relentlessly. Some Basilio many fights shown on sports television classic, perhaps accounting for its popularity. A fight especially against Tony DeMarco in 1955, is considered as one of the welterweight title fight ever more entertaining.
Basil also had memorable fights as a middleweight against Sugar Ray Robinson. He won middleweight crown against Robinson in 1956. He retired from boxing in 1961 with a record of 56 wins, 16 losses and 7 draws.
Willie Pep: Legend Pen
Born in 1922, Willie Pep is probably the featherweight boxer most famous of all time. He had a phenomenal career, which began in 1940 and finally finished in 1966.
He came to the world featherweight title in 1942, winning a fight against the defending champion Chalky Wright. For the remainder of 1940 Pep continued to be a very busy fighter. Taken all levels of combatants and often fought once a month on average. Throughout his career, he fought in an astonishing 241 times. He has lost only 11 of those fights.
After his career ended in 1966, Pep was active in boxing as referee. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame International Boxing at the 1990 inaugural class, and often worked at the facility as a volunteer with his friend Carmen Basilio. Mr. Pep died in 2006 at the age of 84 years.
